3 Stars Self Assessed Guest House

The Temple Hotel

This historic Georgian hotel is set in two acres of Derbyshire hillside, and the majority of rooms have beautiful views over the Derwent Valley, providing a peaceful environment in which to relax and unwind. The main A6 is only a short distance below, and follows the river through the "Little Switzerland" scenery of limestone cliffs and steep wooded slopes.

The independent family run hotel dates back to the 1780's and will have had numerous distinguished people cross its threshold, including Lord Byron, who was so moved by his visit to Matlock Bath that he was inspired to etch a poem on the dining room window. Queen Victoria visited when still a young princess and signed the same pane.

The Byron Room, so called because this is the room where Lord Byron dined when he etched the famous 'unfinished' poem on a pane of window glass, is used as a private dining room for smaller parties and celebrations.

We are currently redecorating an area of the stairs and main hallway. This work does not affect the guest rooms, breakfast room, function room or the Chatsworth Bar. All efforts are being made to minimise disruption to guests.
